Shizuoka University Faculty of Science have been educating students to become logical thinkers, we have also been offering courses required for certifications and licenses in specified fields. The examinations for getting the licenses below are in Japanese only.
Teaching License
The Department of Mathematics students are able to get their junior and high school first degree mathematics teachers’ license; whereas, the students of the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Geology are able to get their first degree science teachers’ license for junior and high school based on their respective majors. Currently, it is not easy to get a job from the cities or the prefectural public schools however it is believed that soon, there will be many vacancies.
The license for handling radiation (Radioactive Substances)
This license is a national certification. There are first and second degrees certifications by the Nuclear Safety Technology Center. The possibility for getting the license increases for students who take the designated subjects in the Departments of Chemistry, Biology, and Geology. (In the actual result of the successful applicants, there were two in 2002, eleven in 2003, and 5 in 2005 of the both of 1st and 2nd degree of licenses). This license is indispensable to for nuclear jobs related to the environmental problems.
The License for Museum Curator
Since 2006 students taking the requisite subjects in all Departments will be able to get the license for museum curator.
The License for Registered Surveyor Assistant
The students in the Departments of Mathematics, Physics, and Geology can get the license for Registered Surveyor Assistant certified by the Geographical Survey Institute by the time of their graduation. This license helps you to qualify for the license of Registered Surveyor after working in the field for awhile and gaining enough experience.
The license for Hazardous Materials Engineer (First Class)
This license is useful for getting jobs in the manufacturing industry because you are able to engage in operations which are related with all kinds of hazardous materials handling which are determined by the fire law. You are required to take more than the required amount of courses for the standard degree of chemistry in order to take this qualification examination. Many of the students in the Department of Chemistry are taking advantage of studying for this examination. Quiet a few students receive their license while studying in the university.
